Invest South Africa congratulates Yanfeng Plastic Omnium South Africa (YFPO) on the opening ceremony of its plant in Rosslyn, supported by Automotive Industry Development Centre. The approximate R1 billion investment and 325 jobs is a significant contributor to the local economy and community. The state-of-the-art facility has been established to supply components for the latest version of the locally manufactured BMW South Africa X3 (G45 platform).
YFPO is a renowned global provider of automobile components, specialising in interior and exterior solutions. It was formed by a joint venture between Yanfeng Automotive Trim Systems and Plastic Omnium, headquartered in Shanghai, China. YFPO operates in more than 20 countries and employs nearly 50 000 people worldwide.
This partnership with a global OEM like BMW resulted in employment, skills, and technology transfer in the new plant, but equally important resulted in deep localisation with lower tier suppliers to YFPO from other components plants found across the country. This underpins the vision behind SA Automotive Masterplan 2035.
