ALPLA Recycling SA has officially opened its state-of-the-art PET bottle recycling facility in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. This milestone follows a significant 1 billion ZAR investment pledged at the 2023 Presidential Investors Conference, reflecting ALPLA’s dedication to fostering sustainable recycling practices and advancing South Africa’s circular economy.
The launch event brought together government representatives, industry leaders, and local stakeholders to commemorate this pivotal achievement. The facility is set to transform the recycling landscape in the region, generating direct employment for 100 people and supporting up to 10,000 livelihoods across the recycling value chain. This includes waste pickers, transportation companies, and buy-back centers.
By significantly reducing PET bottles sent to landfills, the facility contributes to a zero-waste future while boosting environmental sustainability. Equipped with advanced recycling machinery, the plant is prepared to produce high-quality recycled PET, meeting the demands of customers and setting new standards in sustainable production.
The Ballito facility highlights ALPLA’s role as a global leader in recycling innovation, with a focus on environmental preservation and community empowerment. It serves as a benchmark for the potential of public-private collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and promoting economic growth.
